In ihrem “Diary of Confinement” im Paris der Corona-Zeit schreibt die libanesisch-französischeSchriftstellerin Iman Humaydan: “What we are passing through urges us all to think and rethink whatwe did before (...) It is the uprising of earth against us, against our modes of living. It's our earths' self-defence mechanism, a state that urges us to think of ‘le monde d'après’, and to rethink the meanings ofour presence on this earth”.
Wir, als neun einander fremde Künstler_innen aus Basel, Freiburg i. Br., Mulhouse und Strasbourg,gründeten das ATELIER RÉGIONAL, um die Isolation durch eine hybride Arbeitsweise zwischen digitalerund realer Welt zu überbrücken. Dabei erforschten wir das Verhältnis zu Grenzen und (Im-)Mobilität,sowie die (Un-)Möglichkeit von künstlerischem Austausch während der Grenzschließungen. Im Projektverknüpfen sich die visuelle und verbale Sprache zu einem Zustand der Zusammengehörigkeit. Dieausgestellten Arbeiten unterliegen möglicher Veränderung und spiegeln so unseren Arbeitsprozess.Anstatt die individuellen Gedankenräder zirkulieren zu lassen, versuchten wir sie zu verzahnen, umgemeinsames Denken, Imaginieren und Erschaffen zu ermöglichen. Innerhalb des Kollektivs werdenArbeitsgruppen durch Wahlverwandtschaften virtuell und physisch immer wieder neu gebildet.
ATELIER RÉGIONAL ist weder geographisch noch thematisch limitiert, sondern symbolisiert dievergangene, bestehende und zukünftige Entwicklung der Künstler_innen. Analog zum Versuch,unumgängliche Grenzziehungen durch künstlerische Prozesse zu überbrücken, verknüpft dieAusstellung die gezeigten Arbeiten eng miteinander, um den gemeinsamen, rhizomartigen Werdegangund Denkprozess zu unterstreichen.
ATELIER RÉGIONAL geht es um die Voraussetzungen, die Gestaltbarkeit und die Qualität sozialerBegegnungen und damit um Fragen, wie sie seit Wochen und Monaten virulent sind und kontroversdiskutiert werden: Wie lassen sich jetzt, da intime sowie offene Zusammenkünfte nicht mehrselbstverständlich realisiert werden können, neue Politiken des Miteinander-Seins und -Arbeitensentwickeln? Wie organisieren wir uns, um zukünftig Austausch zu ermöglichen? Wie können Räumeentstehen, die An- und Abwesenheit, Nähe und Distanz integrieren und gleichzeitig die Erfahrung einesgeteilten Hier und Jetzt ermöglichen?

It's our earths’ self-defence mechanism, a statethat urges us to think of ‘le monde d'après’, and to rethink the meanings of our presence on this earth”.
We, nine artists from Basel, Freiburg i. Br., Mulhouse and Strasbourg, who were strangers to oneanother, founded the ATELIER RÉGIONAL in order to overcome our isolation through a hybrid workingmethod between the digital and the natural world. In doing so, we explored the relationship to bordersand (im)mobility, as well as the (im)possibility of artistic exchange during border closures. In the project,visual and verbal language combine to create a state of togetherness. The exhibited works are subjectto possible change and thus reflect our working process. Instead of having the individual wheels ofthought circulate, we tried to interlock them in order to enable joint thinking, imagining and creating.Within the collective, work groups are continuously formed anew virtually and physically throughchosen affinities.
ATELIER RÉGIONAL is neither geographically nor thematically limited, but symbolizes the past, existingand future development of the artists. Analogous to the attempt to bridge unavoidable boundariesthrough artistic processes, the exhibition closely links the shown works in order to underline thecommon, rhizome-like development and thought process.
ATELIER RÉGIONAL is concerned with the preconditions, the formability and the quality of socialencounters and thus with questions that have been virulent and controversially discussed for weeks andmonths: How can new strategies of being and working together be developed now that intimate andopen meetings can hardly be realised as a matter of course? How do we reorganise ourselves to enableexchange in the future? How can spaces be created that integrate presence and absence, proximity anddistance, and at the same time enable the experience of a shared here and now?

Dans son “Journal de confinement” pendant la période Corona à Paris, l’écrivaine franco-libanaise ImanHumaydan écrit : “Ce que nous traversons nous invite tous à penser et à repenser à ce que nous avonsfait. (...) C’est le soulèvement de la terre contre nous, contre nos modes de vie. C’est le mécanismed’auto-défense de notre terre, une situation qui nous pousse à penser au « monde d’après », et àrepenser aux sens de notre présence ici.”.
Nous sommes neuf artistes de Bâle, Fribourg-en-Brisgau, Mulhouse et Strasbourg, étrangers les uns auxautres, avons fondé l’ATELIER RÉGIONAL afin de rompre l’isolement par une méthode de travail hybrideentre le monde numérique et le monde réel. Ce faisant, nous avons exploré la relation aux frontières età l’(im)mobilité, ainsi que la (im)possibilité d’échanges artistiques pendant la fermeture des frontières.Dans le projet, le langage visuel et verbal se combinent pour créer un état d’unité. Les œuvres exposéessont susceptibles d’être modifiées et reflètent donc notre processus de travail. Au lieu de laisser circulerles différentes roues de la pensée, nous avons essayé de les emboîter afin de permettre de penser,d'imaginer et de créer ensemble. Au sein du collectif, les groupes de travail se forment virtuellement etphysiquement encore et encore par affinités électives.

Comment nous organisons-nous pour permettre des échanges à l'avenir ? Commentcréer des espaces intégrant présence et absence, proximité et distance, tout en permettant l'expérienced'un ici et d'un maintenant partagés ?
